The Samoyeds (Samoyeds, Samoyeds) are originally northern peoples, now these peoples are known by the national name "Nenets". Accordingly, it can be assumed that the breed of dogs of these nationalities was also called Samoyeds.

But there is another version of the origin of such a funny name. Dogs have long snow-white hair and, when harnessed to a sleigh, merge with the snow of the tundra. Thus, there is an illusion that the sleigh is moving by itself. Hence the "Samoyeds"!
